Looking at Elfleda's family tree...

Well, I noticed that Druz and Silea have water nature, and through Nimea's help had a child with fire nature. How is this possible? Assuming that their daughter married a human, how did their child have water nature and the next have fire, while Elfrida who had water nature had Elfleda, who we know had water nature as well. Elfleda passed this on to Finn. I was wondering how the nature in this lineage alternated every generation with humans until Elfleda. Were the males in Elfleda's family special humans?

I'm sorry if you've already mentioned this in the story or do not wish to answer it, but I thought I'd gotten a grasp of elven families in terms of inheritance, but I hate to be proven wrong. Wink

Tiffany, sorry I am taking

Tiffany, sorry I am taking so long to answer this... I get emails when people post comments, but (for some stupid reason) this forum doesn't send me an email when someone posts a new topic! Mad I am a programmer, I should fix that one of these days...

Anyway, congrats on noticing that little detail. It's half mistake, half intentional.

This all started when I made Elfleda's ancestor be an elf called Iylaine, but made Elfleda had water nature. (This was before Druze and his sister were her parents.) Due to the meaning of the name, I was forced to make the original Iylaine have fire nature, but then what about her descendants?

So my idea is that Water + Water = Fire but it's sort of not a "real" fire, and if that elf has children with a man, then his or her "true" nature comes out in the children, and it's back to water. In that case the second Iylaine, i.e. Elfleda's grandmother should also be water. I think I will fix that when I get home. I don't like the idea of "alternating" like that.

My Darwinian theory is that if you have a Water + Water couple then it's clear proof that there aren't enough Fire elves around, so for the sake of the species they have a fire baby. We are seeing this with Paul and Cat also, Fire + Fire = their little Dew-baby. Smile

Aside from Cat and Paul, though, this question may prove to be important to certain other characters' lives very soon, so it's good to think about it.

I'm sorry the whole elf magic/nature scenario is kind of hokey, but when I started this story I wasn't planning far enough ahead to make a real logical, consistent world. The story itself might be good, but the fantasy aspects of it are rather silly at times. Wink
