"Lena is Free" storyline is up

Published July 3, 2009 11:49 AM

I just published a new storyline, "Lena is Free", for you Lena fan(s).  I simply confined it to her own life... I didn't include the whole business with Maire and Aengus.  That deserves another storyline of its own — either an Aengus + Maire storyline, or perhaps one about the whole Egelric meltdown.

New calendar, and a mysterious chin

Published July 1, 2009 09:16 AM

I just updated the site this morning.  Most of the changes are visible only to the programmer, but there is one big new feature that seemed worthy of an announcement: monthly calendars.

"Sigrid and Brass Dog" storyline published

Published June 30, 2009 06:02 AM

Just sayin'... in case you need a concentrated dose of Sigi and Eirik to help you get over a summer cold or something.

Almost as good as chicken soup made with a chicken killed by Sigi herself.

With a sword.

In case there are any of you who read this blog but don't read Penelope's, there has been an interesting discussion about writing humor on the Sims Writers Alliance this past week.

Sex and the scene

Published June 18, 2009 05:08 AM

More on why it's tough to write about happy-sex:

Every scene is a cell containing all the information needed to build a story, and must have all of the most important elements of story making:

  • Action—a stylized and sexier simulacrum of real time
  • New information that moves the plot forward
  • Compelling, unique leap-off-the-page characters
  • An emotional experience (absolutely linked to character)
  • Vivid, plot-relevant setting
  • Dramatic tension, suspense or conflict

If you’re missing one of those ingredients, chances are your scene won’t work.

Sex vs. intimacy

Published June 15, 2009 12:55 PM

I read this paragraph this morning and it's been sticking with me all day:

I asked some writers at dinner today about it. Is there such a thing as writing about sex too much? One joked that he never stops writing about sex. Another said that it's only too much if you're doing it to avoid talking about intimacy. I think that's spot on. In writing as in life.

Elf demographics graphs

Published May 12, 2009 12:16 PM

I was just playing around with a new PHP graphing library (pChart) and came up with a few interesting (and rather sobering) graphs about the elven population of Lothere.

Announcing Storylines

Published May 8, 2009 06:33 PM

I just updated a ton of new code to the server because I simply could not wait to get this new feature released.  Seriously, I feared that if I didn't get this out of my system, I would spend all my time thinking about that instead of writing the next chapter.

So I hereby officially and somewhat prematurely announce the new section of the site: Storylines.  (There is also now a link to it in the right sidebar on the main site.)
